I look to the moon, inconstant that she is,
And ask her why I fell for the sun.
I ask her why she hasn't the curtesy to chase all thoughts of him away
When it is her shift that has begun.
I ask her why she simply watches,
And wonder if it is because she too is half in love with him,
And in the darkness, in the dim,
Through the looking-glass of my dreams,
If that is the only chance she will have to look upon his face,
When she is night and he is day,
And one is present while the other is away.
And in some small way I understand,
In some small way I pity her,
For I have seen the sun once,
And now my dreams are full of him,
But she, as she sits gazing in the sky,
With a smile much like my own,
She has only ever caught a glance.
With her round and ghostly eye.
Her hope is foolish as is mine,
When I have memory, but she is time,
And when I am gone, she will live on,
And dream of him until the dawn.

<text>Abraham Lincoln looked at the time traveler.
“So I die tonight, and nothing to be done about it?”

“I’m afraid so,” said the traveler.
“Temporal mechanics just work that way.”

“Why did you come talk with me, then?” said Lincoln.
“I imagine a body could get in some trouble for that.”

The traveler leaned forward and said,
“Because everything you did for America was worth it.
Because we’re grateful to you for doing it.
Because it worked.
And because you deserve to know that.”

“Ah,” said Lincoln. “Thank you.”
A smile curled his rugged face.

Then the traveler pulled out a metal box.
“Listen to this, Mr. President,” he said.
Voices poured out of the box,
and Lincoln leaned near, dark eyes alight.
“… all counties reporting. Barack Obama is the first
African-American President of the United States of America.”

Lincoln lifted his head.
“What is … will be … the date?”

“November 4, 2008,” said the traveler.

“So long…” Lincoln mused.

“Well, the backlash after the war was pretty rough—”
the traveler began.

Lincoln waved him off. “I meant,” he said,
“that my country survives that long.”

“America lasts until planetary unification in 2029,”
the traveler added.

That night, Lincoln left for his date with history,
still grinning.</text>

<text>She is not the gold that glimmers in the sun,
but the fire that warms the coldest nights,
the quiet strength that holds the world,
even when her own hands tremble.

She is the voice that soothes the storms,
the steady calm when all else wavers.
She wears courage like second skin,
woven from the battles no one saw.

She is not measured by the mirror’s gaze,
but by the wisdom in her words,
the kindness that lingers in her touch,
the dreams she dares to chase.

She is the ink in unwritten stories,
the melody in unsung songs.
The world calls her mother, daughter, sister, friend,
but she is more — so much more.

She is the healer of unseen wounds,
the lighthouse when the shore is lost,
the keeper of secrets, the giver of grace,
the poet, the warrior, the artist of love.

She carries the weight of a thousand yesterdays
yet walks forward, unbowed, unbroken.
With laughter that stitches shattered hearts,
and silence that speaks louder than words.

She is not waiting to be saved —
she is the saviour of her own story.
A force, a flame, a quiet revolution,
unshaken, unstoppable, enough.

And if the world forgets to honour her,
let her know — she has always been extraordinary.</text>

<text>My hands first held the iron weight, a blade forged keen,
The symbol of a warrior's fate, the sharpest tool seen.
Victories were numbered by the steel that did its will,
And each great name laid to rest, fear remained still.
For strength was in the metal, in its hardened, cutting edge,
And a solemn, fearful pledge was made to its cold might.
Then came the day the sword felt less a part,
A truth beyond its heft was sought, in quiet victory's art.
Into a verdant field, where green life starts and ends,
The power that could grow, where fragile stalk ascends, attends.
A blade of summer grass was taken, a whisper-thin and slight,
And a focused, burning might felt within its gentle stem's height.
At last, the weapon was found, not held within the hand,
But born of a determined will, a purpose to command.
The true war lives within the heart, the battle of the soul,
And a single blade of grass can bend and make the broken whole.
The power once sought to hold, and called a sharpened friend,
Is in the wind, the blade, the stone, and finds no violent end.</text>

Ten thousand miles apart, a chasm lies between us. Life's tides ebb and flow, separated by the vicissitudes of time. Only in the realm of the unseen do we meet once more. Life is absurd; life is nothing but life. We drift along with the current. ~LArry

*The poem presents a bittersweet acceptance of separation. The speaker acknowledges the vast physical and temporal distance between two people but finds comfort in a connection that exists beyond the tangible. The poem transitions from the pain of longing to a more philosophical, absurdist view of existence, where the ultimate truth is to simply live—to drift with the current of life—while cherishing the unseen bonds that endure.*</text>

                <text>New Day's Lyric

May this be the day
We come together.
Mourning, we come to mend,
Withered, we come to weather,
Torn, we come to tend,
Battered, we come to better.
Tethered by this year of yearning,
We are learning
That though we weren't ready for this,
We have been readied by it.
We steadily vow that no matter
How we are weighed down,
We must always pave a way forward.

‍
This hope is our door, our portal.
Even if we never get back to normal,
Someday we can venture beyond it,
To leave the known and take the first steps.
So let us not return to what was normal,
But reach toward what is next.

‍
What was cursed, we will cure.
What was plagued, we will prove pure.
Where we tend to argue, we will try to agree,
Those fortunes we forswore, now the future we foresee,
Where we weren't aware, we're now awake;
Those moments we missed
Are now these moments we make,
The moments we meet,
And our hearts, once all together beaten,
Now all together beat.

‍
Come, look up with kindness yet,
For even solace can be sourced from sorrow.
We remember, not just for the sake of yesterday,
But to take on tomorrow.

‍
We heed this old spirit,
In a new day's lyric,
In our hearts, we hear it:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne.
Be bold, sang Time this year,
Be bold, sang Time,
For when you honor yesterday,
Tomorrow ye will find.
Know what we've fought
Need not be forgotten nor for none.
It defines us, binds us as one,
Come over, join this day just begun.
For wherever we come together,
We will forever overcome.

Yesterday's doubts and burdens,
Vanish like footprints in the rain.
No need to carry stale burdens,

Chanting the new day's psalms, their voices swelling.
Each moment is an opportunity for creation and encounter,
Feel your heart beating boldly.
The morning light outside your window is a gentle reminder,
awakening your courage to dare.
Leave familiar territory behind, take that first step
to discover the surprises hidden within this fresh beginning.

a new adventure is swiftly approaching.

Revealed and vanished in an unexpected blaze of light.

Like a strong tree that reaches down, deep, deep,

Where the great-ringed unsightly blind worms creep,
And queer things of the nether world abound:

So would I live in rich imperial growth,
Touching the surface and the depth of things,
Instinctively responsive unto both,
Tasting the sweets of being and the stings,

The storm arrives, a sudden silver shield, To soften the harsh and certain sun, And in the blur, the world is all revealed, As every frantic, hurried line is run.

A window, once a frame for careful sight, Is now a canvas where the raindrops stream, And I watch your face in this suspended light, Reflected in a shifting, watery dream.

My sight is washed of what I thought I knew, The curated smile, the posture held for show.

The rain remakes your image, fresh and new, In the soft-edged, patient, rhythmic flow.

Your eyes, in this dissolving, muted place, Hold not the world, but only me, and deep As a quiet pond, they mirror a gentle grace, And in that gaze, my waiting love I reap.

For love's achievement wasn't in the chase, Or in the perfect light where all is clear, But in the shadowed, honest, liquid space, Where only what is real is held so dear.

So let the storm, your true self, bring to view; In the falling rain, my love for you is true.

<text>The text itself is a powerful metaphor for the strength of commitment and inner resilience in the face of adversity.

"When tempests rise and shadows stretch and bend, / And lesser lights like lanterns flicker and end": These lines evoke a sense of external chaos and the failure of weaker, more temporary sources of comfort or guidance.
"The star of commitment holds its single place, / A point of grace within the void of space": The star represents a stable, unwavering anchor—the constancy of one's commitment. It is an internal point of focus that provides a sense of grace and purpose when all else feels empty or lost.
"It is the unseen pull, the silent thread, / That links the future to the promises said": This speaks to the invisible, but powerful, connection between the promises one makes and the future one is building. It is the quiet force that maintains integrity over time.
"Not a fierce fire, but an endless, quiet glow, / That helps the lonely, weary soul to know": The final lines contrast commitment with a dramatic, short-lived passion. Instead, it is a consistent, gentle presence that provides comfort and guidance to those who are tired and alone, a light that is always there.</text>
